I think the twins look so cute in hats and I hate that they can't wear them to school BUT the other day was hat day so they were excited. Speaking of hat day, and dumb rules like no hats, Josh was complaining to me the other day about how lame his recess is. Recess, singular. That's problem number one. He is in second grade, is in school for 7 hours, and has ONE short recess. Now in that recess they are not allowed to play with balls, sticks, in the forest, there are no swings, they took out the "high" bar, and the playground is about the most pathetic thing I've ever seen. Oh, they're also discouraged from running because, you know, it's dangerous. Parker and I were talking about how sad we are for our boys that they are growing up in such an overprotective atmosphere at school. We keep thinking it's just an east coast thing but maybe it's even gotten bad on the west coast? Also, on both their report cards they excelled academically but both need to "save their talking to recess time." So they get 20 minutes a day to be social? Schools need to focus a little more on socialization and physical fitness and a little less on the long lost Indian tribes Josh is supposed to memorize. The worst part is? I am powerless. All I can do is ensure that when they are in MY care they are free to be KIDS and yes, maybe, even...get hurt. But guess what? THAT'S HOW THEY LEARN! Sometimes I long for "the good ol days!"
Poor Jack came home from school bawling because he slipped in the mud and ruined his brand new white shorts...
Apparently Tyce has taken to meditating...
Saturday it was Josh's turn to go summer clothes shopping with me...
This was his favorite shirt...
He was beyond thrilled to eat at Taco Bell, since mommy never takes him there...
I can think of so FEW times my kids have ever fallen asleep in the car but both Jack and Josh did on their way to the mall...I guess it's boring when you don't have brothers to entertain you during the drive!
Then he woke up, caught me taking pictures, and smiled this devious smile...
Sunday morning we played the card game War in my bed for over an hour...everyone won once except me, here they are telling me I'm the loser...
Ever wonder how my extremely busy hubby stays in such great shape?! Push ups with kids on your back of course!
So if you look closely you will see the name TYCE written on this closet door. However, Tyce INSISTS that it wasn't him that did it...despite the fact that it is HIS name and in HIS distinctive handwriting. He eventually told the truth but got in trouble for lying to us...punk!
The weather the past couple days has been BEAUTIFUL! Not hot and not cold! Saturday morning it was even cool enough that I could run 10 miles! It felt great! Sunday night we went on a family walk...
That night after family prayer the boys all did a spontaneous hug which was precious. My boys are far from perfect but one thing I love about them is they really don't fight very often. I really think they love each other and love to be together. When given a choice to do something fun alone or bring their brothers they always chose the latter. I hope it continues throughout their lives.
We have been keeping busy with school, baseball, piano, work, church commitments, ninja, etc. Tyce graduates from preschool this week and will be SO sad when it is over!
